In the grand city of Isfahan, alongside more than 50 large and small study halls and libraries, the central library and information center of the Isfahan municipality play a prominent and special role in the development of Isfahan’s culture and intellect.

The central library boasts a repository comprising over 200,000 volumes of books, more than 30,000 digital sources, a collection of over 11,000 reference books, and over 7,000 rare manuscripts and lithographic prints. Additionally, it provides service to the citizens of Isfahan with over 320 journal titles and 20 newspaper titles in both new and old publications sections.

The central library also features an auditorium with a capacity of 330 people for holding scientific and cultural seminars, a training hall accommodating 70 people for conducting educational courses, and art galleries with a capacity of 150 paintings.

Library of Art and Isfahan Studies

The Library of Art and Isfahan Studies, Sheikh Bahai, is a comprehensive reflection of the presence and emergence of the artistic, architectural, and historical treasures of this city, serving as a global museum. Established in Khordad month of 1394 (May-June 2015), this library with an area of over 2000 square meters is located within the renovated Safavid government complex and the Isfahan Historical Fabric Association in the historical site of Naghsh-e Jahan Square. The main topics and subjects of this library include: Iranian and global architecture, Islamic art and architecture, urban planning, painting, miniature, design, visual arts, carpet weaving, calligraphy, Iranian studies, tourism, photography, travelogues, theater, cinema, music, as well as Isfahan studies (history and geography, culture and art, historical monuments, handicrafts, biographies, etc.). It comprises four independent library repositories (lending library, rare books, reference, and educational resources) in print and digital formats (scientific articles, multimedia resources, films, audio, images, maps, plans, etc.) and is available in three languages: Persian, English, and Arabic.

Citizenship Rights Library

The Citizenship Rights Library currently holds over 14,000 volumes covering all branches of law, including civil procedure, commercial law, criminal law, and 26 legal journals, covering various topics such as jurisprudence, Islamic jurisprudence, Mofid Weekly, Islamic Law Quarterly Journal, Legal Research Journal, Faculty of Law and Political Science Journal, School of Law Journal, International Studies Quarterly, and educational books related to exams and courses such as undergraduate and graduate school materials, available to enthusiasts and visitors of this section.

Literature Library

The Literature Library holds approximately 16,000 volumes covering literature, poetry, fiction, and educational books for entrance into graduate programs. This library is affiliated with the Qalmestan Literary Center and hosts literary courses aligned with the center’s objectives. Isfahan, the City of Literature Lovers, has long been home to some of Iran’s most prominent literary, cultural, and civilizational figures. The existence of the Qalmestan Literary Creation Center in the heart of Isfahan’s Ghadir Garden has turned into a focal point for intellectual exchange and gatherings of literary and artistic figures. With 13 years of literary activity within the Cultural, Social, and Sports Organization of the Isfahan Municipality, the Qalmestan Literary Creation Center and Literary Specialization Office serve as a hub for literature enthusiasts in this field.

Media Library

The specialized Media Library was inaugurated on August 17, 2018, with the presence of the Deputy Minister of Islamic Guidance.

The specialized Media Library is part of the educational, research, and investigative system, which is the most important source for meeting the comprehensive information needs of the media community, containing the latest information in its relevant fields. The Media Library, with 1,123 copies of specialized media books, weekly news magazines, monthly cultural-social magazines, quarterly journals, and weekly magazine archives, operates with the following objectives:

Providing the latest media resources and published books on media-related topics.
Providing membership services.
Preparation of special study tables for members.
Collaboration and consultation with members, organizing sessions to introduce newly published media books.

Cinema Library

Filmmakers require a scientific and cultural background to create any piece of work, which can only be obtained through study and research in this field. However, it should not be expected that cinema books are only for the use of filmmakers. For this reason, a specialized library has been established for enthusiasts in this field. After the establishment of specialized offices, it was decided to formulate programs to establish scientific and practical authority for these offices. In line with this, due to high demand, the Cinema Specialized Office launched the Cinema Library. Currently, this library maintains 800 volumes of books in the Sheikh Bahai Art Specialized Library located on Governorate Street.

The specialized Sports and Health Library “Abarar” was established in 1388 (2009-2010) with 7,600 copies of books, 15 sports magazines, 260 reference books, and a study hall with a capacity of 80 members. It provides services in an exceptionally hygienic and clean space, with maximum utilization of natural light and a highly desirable and excellent green space, serving dear citizens.

Specialized Children’s Libraries

The Children’s House, as one of the offices and centers of the Cultural, Social, and Sports Organization of Isfahan Municipality, aims to promote children’s abilities and nurture their talents by creating a cheerful environment. We believe that the world smiles with the smiles of children, and happiness is the right of children. We conduct classes in the form of games and indirect education for children, hoping that they will consider the Children’s House as their second home.

The Children’s Specialized Office intends to provide a suitable environment for the growth, dynamism, and upbringing of children in line with the cultural needs of society and the day-to-day changes by establishing human networking between stakeholders, including parents, educators, institutions, and organizations, in various areas. This center and specialized office are composed of a scientific council responsible for strategic policymaking to advance the goals of this office. Alongside the joyful educational programs, periodic workshops, and artistic services such as theater, are held in this center, which are suitable for the cheerful and instructive spirits of children.

Currently, areas such as cognitive perceptual skills of children, nature and environment, literature and verbal skills, economics and financial intelligence, visual arts, and performances are on our agenda. This center caters to children aged 2 to 12. With over 6,000 books and 1,000 members, the Children’s Specialized Library provides a suitable venue to increase the reading rate and related education. The Children’s House’s conference hall, with a capacity of 130 seats, can host specialized programs for children.

The Mother and Child Specialized Library

The Mother and Child Specialized Library, with a cheerful and unique space designed for children aged 1 to 12, was established in 1394 (2015/2016). Among the services provided by this center, in addition to lending books in two separate sections for children and mothers, are special magazines for mothers and children and activities aimed at promoting reading culture. These activities include storytelling programs, book reading and creation competitions, joint workshops for play and education for both mothers and children, separate classes for children and mothers, counseling sessions on parenting, and various festive programs.

This library comprises two separate book repositories dedicated to children and mothers. The children’s section consists of over 15,000 volumes, while the mothers’ section has over 5,000 volumes, mainly focusing on psychology and child upbringing. There are 20 specialized magazines for mothers and children available. The facility includes two halls for events and conferences and one classroom for various uses. Inshallah (God willing), we will soon witness the launch of a specialized theater section for children and teenagers, providing specialized services in this field.

The Teenage Specialized Library

The Teenage Specialized Library was inaugurated on December 25, 2005. The aim of establishing this library is to engage in reading activities as well as cultural, artistic, and recreational activities for teenagers aged 10 to 16. The activities and sections of the Teenage Specialized Library include lending section, academic counseling, literary workshops covering classical and contemporary literature, literary creativity, writing, journalism, Isfahan studies, study skills, book creation, creative thinking, research methods, and more.

The Farshideh Women’s Specialized Library

The Farshideh Women’s Specialized Library and Study Hall is located on the second floor of the Farshideh Mother and Child Cultural-Recreational Complex on Al-Mohammad Boustan Street, Farshideh. This library, with over 12,000 volumes of various titles, includes a specialized library for children and teenagers as well as a specialized bank of intellectual games. Storytelling sessions and creative reading sessions for mothers and children are held in this library. Soon, a special section for bibliotherapy clinics will be established in this library.

The Sun Women’s Specialized Library

The Sun Women’s Specialized Library, affiliated with the Cultural, Recreational, and Sports Organization of Isfahan Municipality (District 3), is ready to provide services to dear citizens, especially women. The library, with a collection of over 26,000 volumes, is open every day from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM, except on holidays, offering book lending services to book enthusiasts and readers. The library includes sections for children, teenagers, and adults, with a focus on books related to women.

Children’s books cover various topics such as imaginative stories, short stories, poetry, religious education, social skills education, classical literature, and history. Teenage books cover general and educational topics, as well as stories and history. Adult books cover subjects like computers, psychology, social issues, medicine and women’s health, arts, artistic education specifically for women, Iranian and foreign novels, history, and geography among other resources available for lending. Additionally, this library provides maternal and child services to pregnant women. The periodicals section includes women’s magazines.

The Velayat Children and Youth Specialized Library

The Velayat Children and Youth Specialized Library was established in 2004. This library, with 3,569 copies of general and youth Persian books, 3,869 copies of Persian children’s books, as well as programs aimed at promoting reading culture among children, teenagers, and their parents, is at the service of the community.
