Tehran Metro Map on Google Maps in 2025

As mentioned earlier, we will review the Tehran Metro map in this article. However, before that, we want to show you the map of Tehran with the metro. Why? Because if you see the entire 2025 Tehran Metro map—or, in other words, the locations of Tehran Metro stations on the map—in greater detail, you can get a comprehensive overview of the metro’s coverage in Tehran.

This will help you understand which areas of Tehran have active metro lines and where you can use them for commuting.

As you can see on the Tehran Metro map, the density of metro lines is higher in the central part of the city, but other areas have not been entirely neglected either. However, you might still need to use buses or taxis for some routes.

The Tehran Metro is one of the most important and efficient public transportation systems in Iran. With 7 lines and approximately 296 kilometers of track, this network has successfully met the daily needs of citizens.

Features of the Tehran Metro

159 metro stations connecting various parts of the city and its outskirts.

Connection to Alborz Province.

Reduction of traffic congestion and environmental pollutants.

Comfort and safety for passengers.

Given these features, the Tehran Metro plays a significant role in urban transportation and is expected to expand further in the future.

A Closer Look at Tehran Metro Lines

If we overlook exceptions, the way most people use the Tehran Metro in 2025 follows a relatively consistent pattern. Typically, they use the metro to commute to work, traveling between specific origins and destinations on the lines.

If you are one of these commuters, knowing all the lines on the Tehran Metro map might not be very useful to you. Instead, you can focus on familiarizing yourself with the line you use most frequently.

In this section of the Tehran Metro guide, we will examine all the active lines of the Tehran Metro. The information you’ll find here includes:

The good news is that some stations on the Tehran Metro map are currently wheelchair-accessible, although they are limited. Therefore, if you are traveling with a wheelchair, it is better to identify stations with adequate facilities on each line in advance to avoid any issues.

Individuals using wheelchairs can have a more comfortable commuting experience on public transportation by referring to the list of wheelchair-accessible stations on each metro line. Below is the list of wheelchair-accessible metro stations, categorized by line:

Elevator Conditions at Metro Stations on the Tehran Metro Map

Stations with elevators on the Tehran Metro map generally fall into four categories:

Elevator from street level to one platform.

Elevator from street level to both platforms.

Elevator from the ticket hall to the platform.

Elevator from street level to the ticket hall and from the ticket hall to the platform.

Each of these conditions is represented by a specific symbol on the 2025 Tehran Metro map. Below, you can see an image of the map highlighting wheelchair-accessible stations.

Stations Adapted for Visually Impaired Passengers

The Tehran Municipality has not only considered the needs of wheelchair users but has also made efforts to accommodate visually impaired individuals. Therefore, visually impaired passengers can easily navigate and use public transportation services at certain stations on the Tehran Metro map.

As you can see in the image below, most stations on the Tehran Metro map, especially on Lines 1 and 2, have been adapted for visually impaired passengers.

Methods for Purchasing Tehran Metro Tickets

To use the Tehran Metro, you must have a ticket, as cash or card payments are not accepted at all. Without a ticket, you cannot pass through the metro gates. The choice of purchasing method is up to you, and I will explain two common and simple methods below.

In-Person Purchase of Tehran Metro Tickets

If you rarely use the Tehran Metro, you can opt for single or double paper tickets. There are ticket booths at every metro station where you can purchase these tickets. However, if you commute daily using the metro, I recommend getting a rechargeable metro card and topping it up as needed.

Whenever the balance on these cards runs out, you can recharge them and use them across the Tehran Metro map. Generally, using a rechargeable metro card is more cost-effective.

In addition to ticket booths, electronic ticket vending machines have also been introduced. By selecting the trip type and swiping your card, these machines issue single-use metro tickets. After receiving the ticket, place it on the entry gate and proceed to the boarding area.

Make sure to note that to pass through the gate, you must have a single-use ticket or scan the QR code or metro card on the laser scanner to open the gate.

Online Purchase of Tehran Metro Tickets

Another method for purchasing metro tickets is through municipal service applications. Two popular apps for this purpose are:

Tehran Man App: This app offers single-trip tickets, suburban tickets, and more. You can purchase tickets online and, like with single-use tickets, scan the provided code at the gate to open it.

Shahrzad App: This app provides various municipal services for Tehran citizens, such as purchasing metro tickets, traffic zone permits, scheduling vehicle inspections, and more. You can also buy your metro tickets through this app.

Tehran Metro App

One of the most important tools for managing metro travel in Tehran is the Tehran Metro app. This practical and interesting application not only provides a schematic metro map but also offers services like GPS-based location tracking, station suggestions, route recommendations for reaching a specific destination, train schedules, and estimated arrival times at different stations. If you plan to travel by metro and are unsure of station locations, this app is the best tool to guide you.

It’s worth noting that this app also works offline.

Tehran Metro Ticket Prices for 2025

Since the ticket prices for 2025 have not yet been announced, we refer to the prices from the previous year. The ticket prices for the Tehran Metro in 2024 are as follows:

Single-trip urban ticket: 4,500 Tomans

Single-trip suburban ticket (Line 5): 5,500 Tomans

Single-trip ticket for Hashtgerd or Golshahr: 12,000 Tomans

Single-trip ticket for Parand City: 15,000 Tomans

Types of Trains on Tehran Metro Lines

Generally, two types of trains operate on Tehran Metro lines: urban trains and suburban trains.

Urban Trains
Urban trains are the underground metro trains that travel through dark tunnels. They have stadium-style seating and features like digital route displays and information about the origin and destination stations.

Suburban Trains

Suburban trains are a newer model of Tehran Metro trains, resembling buses more closely. They feature more comfortable, bus-style seating and are often double-decker. It’s important to note that suburban trains operate above ground, unlike the underground urban trains.

What Happens If You Don’t Tap Your Card When Exiting the Metro?

If you don’t tap your card when exiting, a higher amount will be deducted from your card, equivalent to traveling to the end of the line.

For example, in 2024, if you tap your card when exiting the metro, depending on the distance traveled, an amount between 3,300 to 3,900 Tomans will be deducted from your card. However, if you don’t tap your card, 4,800 Tomans will be deducted.

This rule does not apply to the Karaj, Hashtgerd, and Parand metro lines. On these lines, there is no need to register your exit by tapping your metro card.

Have You Gotten to Know the 2025 Tehran Metro Map?

In this guide, we’ve covered almost everything you need to know about the Tehran Metro lines. Given the rapid expansion of the metro network, it wouldn’t be surprising if, in the near future, the metro extends to the villages around Tehran. For now, you have access to the Tehran Metro map and know the operating hours of each line.
